Living in Coconut Creek

by: admin Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Located in Broward County, Florida, Coconut Creek is a city that has always been lauded for its beauty.  What else can you expect, after all, from the Butterfly Capital of the World?  It’s home to the largest butterfly aviary in the whole world, a truly wonderful place to visit if you’re with your family.  Then again, the question would be, is Coconut Creek a nice place to live?  The answer: If you’re a nature lover, then it definitely is.  Few cities in the world are as environmentally conscious as Coconut Creek.  You’ll notice that there’s an abundance of parks, waterways, trees, and gardens in this city.  From the start, the city’s layout has been well-planned, and as a result, Coconut Creek is beautifully landscaped city that’s perfect for families who are looking for a place to live.

The city itself spans an area of 12 square miles.  Currently, it has more than 62,000 residents, 60% of which are married and 40% are single.  However, of the whole population, only 17.6% have children.  The unemployment rate here is a decently low 4.6%, with an expected job growth of 23.4%.  The median income for each household in Coconut Creek is $43,980, which is pretty decent, all things considered.  Housing mostly consists of single-family homes, though there are also some condominiums and town houses.

If you have kids with you, don’t worry because schooling is not an issue.  Coconut Creek is served by no less than 7 public schools, three Elementary Schools, one Middle School, and three high schools.  Also worthy of note is the Atlantic Technical Center, a Technical High school where students can go to should they choose a more specific line of education.

As for entertainment, Coconut Creek is certainly not lacking.  It has been mentioned time and again that Coconut Creek is perfect for families.  This is because this city is home to several beautiful parks, like the Tradewinds Park and the Sabal Pines Park.  You might also want to mingle with the neighbors at the Coconut Creek Community Center and at the Coconut Creek Recreation Complex.  The Promenade in this city is particularly noteworthy too, as this upscale shopping centre is a great place to go if you want to pass the time.  And last but not the least, there’s Butterfly World, which is visited by tourists from all over the world.

Coconut Creek’s climate is mild all year round, as is characteristic of the rest of Florida.  During winter, temperatures go at an average of 58°F while July temperatures average at about 91°F.  It’s a great place to live in if you’re a sun lover, but snow lovers will be sorely disappointed.

Of course, Coconut Creek is not perfect.  Its biggest downside is that it’s located just adjacent to Mount Trashmore, which is North Broward’s County Resource Recovery and Central Disposal Sanitary Landfill.  This proximity to “Mount Trashmore”, as the landfill is called, has made the city suffer from a foul odor in the air, though it is mostly negated by the greenery in the area.
